Powell County Jail is a 714-beds regional correctional facility in Deer Lodge, Montana. It houses about 662 inmates under the supervision of over 147 staff members. The Powell County Jail is operated by Powell County Sherriff, Federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Federal U.S. Marshal, among other major agencies. Consequently, in addition to housing local offenders, the Powell County Jail holds more than 490 federal inmates daily. The largest population of inmates here are men, with just 16% of them being women.
Powell County Jail was founded in and named after Deer Lodge, a popular associate justice at the Supreme court of Montana.
