Monroe County Jail is a 770-beds regional correctional facility in Union, West Virginia. It houses about 622 inmates under the supervision of over 172 staff members. The Monroe County Jail is operated by Monroe County Sherriff, Federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Federal U.S. Marshal, among other major agencies. Consequently, in addition to housing local offenders, the Monroe County Jail holds more than 476 federal inmates daily. The largest population of inmates here are men, with just 18% of them being women.
Monroe County Jail was founded in and named after Union, a popular associate justice at the Supreme court of West Virginia.
